Not every customer is going to love you, and not all business is good business!
I see it regularly: a CEO falls in love with an early customer, like the first small retailer to carry your product. He/She then bends over backward to fulfill their needs, extends ridiculous credit terms, sells at a lower margin, and lets their staff get pushed around by this customer.
Sometimes, you just need to fire this customer and move on. Your business, profit margin, and, most importantly, you will be better for it.
We all have to graduate from our early customers at a certain point. It’s okay for them to be someone else’s first customer.
Let go of old business to make way for new business.
