A lot of CEOs run into this problem.
That is, the problem of thinking people they’ve hired are going to change.
That through a few quick changes, someone who’s underperforming will soon start performing.
A lot of times, multiple underperforming employees is a sign of one or both of the following problems:
- You’ve put the right people in the wrong seats, or
- Your hiring practices are broken.
Both reflect deeper problems within your organization that cannot be resolved quickly and if not resolved quickly, can cause long term harm to your company.
The answer, however, is not to go on a firing spree or shake things up.
To fix things as the CEO of your company, start off with proper planning around your hiring – something you should definitely work on on a quarterly basis with your CFO.
It sounds like common sense, but hire out of need and within your means, not because you have some extra cash lying around.
